LOS ANGELES, Dec 3 (Reuters)

A veteran genie will meet a popular young witch on television's WB network this Jan. 11.

In the new episode, Eden will play Great Aunt Irma, matriarch of Sabrina's Spellman clan, from the Other Realm. The show's teenage followers will also be excited to learn that the band Hanson will debut its new single "Strong Enough to Break'' on the show.

In "I Dream of Jeannie,'' the series that ran from 1965 to 1970 on NBC, Eden -- who was born Aug. 23, 1934 in Tucson, Arizona -- played a mischievous genie whose master was played by actor Larry Hagman.

From The Abode- Rumor has it Barbara could possibly replace Caroline Rhea's character since Rhea will be taking over the Rosie O'Donnell Show in 2002.

From the land of Kangaroo's & Crocodile Dundee comes a groovy review of I Dream of Jeannie Online! 'Who Weekly Magazine' wrote in their June issue:

'Another slightly obsessive but thoroughly entertaining site is the one dedicated to TV's original genie in a bottle, (this site). If you've been a fan for years, you can play the trivia game and become a certified "Jeannieologist."

Photo and sound archives episode guides, memorabilia, interviews with the actors and a behind-the-scenes section- one blink and you're in."'

Thanks 'Who Weekly' your wish is my command!

Christmas 2000 marked the debut of the Hallmark 'I Dream of Jeannie' ornament.

Hang Jeannie... from your Christmas tree that is. Give your children that false sense of magic! Have them at your beck and call, with Jeannie watching over the presents they are sure to believe just about anything can pop out of the boxes. So milk it for all it's worth!

Or if you're mentally sane just surprise your family by decorating your tree with the chiffon draped curves that kept America dreaming in the 1960's with this 'Jeannie' and her 'Bottle' ornament. The only Christmas ornament with a bare mid-drift!

GLOBE MAGAZINE September 21st 1999

Thirty-four years after popping out of a bottle on 'I Dream of Jeannie,' beautiful Barbara Eden has carved a new career slot for herself! America's favorite genie tells GLOBE exclusively that she just cut a deal with a manufacturer of slot machines who have named a one-arm bandit in her honor.

The glitzy gambling attraction will be placed in casinos from Las Vegas to Monte Carlo and will feature a logo of Barbara as Jeannie - complete with trademark harem pants and skimpy midriff. A sound bite of the pony-tailed princess' voice will purr at the players. "I'll say things like, 'Oh that is wonderful' when the win, or 'Uh-oh, try again,'" Barbara explains.

But that's not all. The sizzling 65-year-old, who lives in Beverly Hills with third hubby, real-estate developer Jon Eicholtz, is hoping a new film version of her '60s sitcom that's in the works will be a winner too. The still-stunning actress will have a part in the film when production starts, but she won't be playing the bottled beauty that made men across America drool. She'll play a relative instead. (Jeannie's Aunt) In the meantime, Barbara stays busy working out, acting occasionally and answering hundreds of letters from fans who see her show in reruns.

While Barbara's thrilled to still be in such demand, she can't understand the shows enduring appeal. The sitcom about an astronaut  (Larry Hagman) who finds a genie in a bottle went off the air in 1970 after a five year run.

"I thought of it as a nice job," she admits. "But I had no idea it was ever going to last as long as it did."

Entertainment Weekly comment on the I Dream of Jeannie movie

Peering further into the crystal ball, the long-delayed rebottling of I Dream of Jeannie is, promises producer Sid Ganis, "right on track," possibly for 2001 release. Lisa Kudrow has been mentioned as heir to Barbara Eden's harem pants.

I Dream of Jeannie Motion Picture

According to this quote from Sid Ganis the movie is right on track. But this 'line' has been used for the past three years. The fact that preproduction hasn't even begun on the rumored motion picture version of "I Dream of Jeannie" I can only say that it doesn't look like one's gonna be made for a long, long while. Rumors have it that Barbara Eden and the head of the film department of Columbia (Sid Ganis) are at odds with one another. While Barbara and more than 75% of the 'Jeannie' fan population feel she should return as the bottled blonde. It's rumored that Sid Ganis feels she's too old and not worthy of returning to the character she originated.

Since neither Eden or Gannis have commented either way on this rumor it's merely speculation. There are nastier sub-contexts to both sides, hitting on her age, and Sids rumored comment 'you're too old and no one cares.' Or Sid's rumored desire to have the premise of 'Jeannie' rewritten to 90's era plotline. Making 'Jeannie' a vampish carbon copy of her evil twin sister from the original series which ran from 1965-1970. Not to mention the said removal of Jeannie's love for Major Nelson, making 'Jeannie' a "independent woman."

When Eden was asked if she think's the 90's 'Jeannie' would/should be different she commented.

"I hope not. I hope they (Columbia) aren't that stupid, she was a fish out of water in the modern world, it wouldn't work any other way."

Once I have more information on the movie I'll let you know.

As for those who wonder who would be slated for the role of 'Jeannie' it seems Lisa Kudrow of 'Friends' has been mentioned as a possible. Which is actually quite funny because I Dream of Jeannie Online was the first source to suggest Kudrow for the role. From that point on the idea grew and now it's nearly a 'house hold idea.'
